The Book

For the spiritually homeless

"The conversation has never stopped. The only question is whether you are in a condition to hear it."

Tens of millions of people carry a genuine faith without a container that fits it. They left the institution but could not leave the hunger. Or they stayed in the community and found their consciousness pressing against the walls.

Consciousness Is Everything is written for those people. Not to return them to the institution. Not to correct their theology. To give them a framework — rooted in the deepest stream of the Christian contemplative tradition — for understanding what the awareness pressing against the inside of their spiritual life actually is.

Written by a fellow traveler. Not a guide who has arrived.

About Jeff

A fellow traveler

Jeff Reistad — author, Consciousness Is Everything

My father died when I was eighteen, two months after high school graduation. What followed was a decade of Shadow living — the parties, six and a half years of college, superbike rides at double the speed limit, and one winter a snowmobile into the side of a truck at over a hundred miles an hour that I walked away from when the physics said I should not have.

The turn came in 1998, when I was introduced to the woman who became my wife. We married in 2001. She paved the road back to the church simply by walking it herself, year after year, until I began to follow. We adopted a daughter from Colombia — a vision pursued faithfully that ended not as planned, but exactly as the Creator intended. We built a charter school in our community, grew it over a decade, and stepped away when it was thriving without us.

"I am not a guide who has arrived. I am a fellow traveler — with a framework I believe in, practice imperfectly, and am still working out in the texture of ordinary days."

In 2019, our nine-year-old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. He is still living with it. The framework in this book does not resolve it. That honesty is not a caveat — it is the most important thing I can tell you about what this book actually offers. We then relocated 1,700 miles to Florida, arriving knowing no one, and were received by a neighborhood of two hundred homes with a warmth that changed our understanding of what community is for.

This book was written from the middle of all of it. Not from the other side. If you are in the middle of something too — this is the book I wish someone had handed me.
